Building a business server, is this good?
I was recently hired by a company that was looking for help setting up their network. They are looking for 3 computers and an iPhone to have the same Outlook Calendar. Quickbooks also needs to be the same on two computers. Would an Exchange server be able to sync the Outlook Calendars? I have these specs:
2GHz CPU
4GB RAM
1000Mbps Ethernet
Windows Server 2008 (Exchange support?)
What can I use as a backbone OS for the server, and what other software modules could be needed?
Exchange will definitely do what you want. You could also back up the Quickbooks to the server, or even host it on the server. You should be fine with the specs for such a small business. The host os would be exactly what you mentioned: Windows Server. You will need Exchange and set up the mobile devices so the Iphone works. This will also give them an email solution, not just a calendar, so keep that in mind. I will tell you, it makes me nervous that you hire out your services, yet know very little about what you are setting up. Make sure you configure everything securely, so they arent hacked.
