Why can’t iPhone email folders sync/match Outlook 2003 folders?
I recently purchased a iPhone 2.0 with 3G and the new 2.1 software and want to set it up so that it matches Outlook 2003. I am not connecting to an Exchange server or using MobileMe, and my email service provider is a POP3 account.
The real problem that I have is syncing the sent and inbox folders from Outlook 2003 with that of the iPhone. I can get the contacts and calendar over fine, but when I send a message from my iPhone it doesn’t show up in the sent folder of Outlook. Also if I delete an email from my iPhone, it doesn’t delete from Outlook. Contacts and Calender items sync, but not the emails.
Err, because that’s what POP3 is…it’s separate from the server
POP3 makes it so that when you delete from device or computer, it doesn’t delete from the server. Same thing for sending messages. You should be able to manually sync it using the refresh button. But that also means you have to click sync in Outlook also.
IMAP is where everything is connected. Most email providers have IMAP as well as POP3, so check it out. IMAP is where everything is synced across the devices (unlike push, it’s not instant, but it’s good enough) so when you delete from your phone, computer, or server, it gets deleted everywhere else too.
