belkin n wireless router problems windows 7

by admin on February 5, 2010

My router is Netgear, I wish to put another PC on my network, do I need to use a Netgear network adapter?

I purchased a Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N USB 2.0 USB Adapter, it all works fine using Windows XP, but my new computer is Windows 7. I learned the hard way that this particular model is incompatible so I figure I’ll just return it for one that works with Windows 7. My only problem concern is whether a Belkin USB Adapter (for example) would be compatible with a Netgear router. Or would it absolutely have to be of the same companies hardware? Any thoughts or other suggestions that might help are welcome. Tips on improving the signal strength are also appreciated, since I spent $60 on a piece of hardware, and when installed on my laptop, provided the exact same signal strength it picked up by itself.

I experienced a problem very similar to yours. We own 4 Desktop PCs and 3 Dell Notebook PCs and was upset/not happy that my Linkys WUSB300N USB Adapter that worked on Notebook PCs would not work or even load on my newest desktop that is top of the line Dell XPS 435MT Studio with expensive Intel Core i7-920 CPU, 6 GB Dual Channel DDR3 memory and has 64-bit Vista Premium OS like Windows 7 (comes 2 versions 32-Bit and 64-Bit). FYI where the problem lies based on my reserach is that not many WiFi adapters on the market have 64 Bit drivers.

It started a month or so ago we were experiencing connection problems and only WiFi wireless was working and I was upset when I tried installing my expensive Linksys USB N adapter WUSB300 on that Dell XPS 435MT Studio desktop, I found out it from research that few WiFi adapter were 64 bit compatible but I did finally find & buy one WUSB600N Linksys dual channnel WiFi adapter and was glad it worked on a 64 Bit OS.

Hope the Above Info Helps!
