I need to connect to my father-in-law belkin router on the network.?

Hello. I have a configuration of Belkin N1 Wireless Router for my father in law, But I live 200 miles from it and because it has this nasty habit of disconnecting safety and other things. I can not get to solve this for him. but when I set it up for him was not an option to connect remotely as long as my IP address is inserted. I have now had given him my IP address to enter in configuring routers. I need to know is how you connect to your wireless router Belkin N1. I am on Bt and he is in the media Virgin if that makes any differance at all. All I want to do is connect the router to your setup and sort it out.
