BT Home Hub Network local file sharing …?
Just changed my Belkin wireless router for BT center of origin (mainly for the free movement of Norton security). Although you can see all computers connected to the hub through the Hub Manager utility, I can not access the data from another computer through My Network Places. The search for the network equipment does not blank, even identifying the computer I'm looking from. I tried running Network Wizard on all machines, but this accomplishes nothing …. Other posts on Yahoo Answers seem to be people familiar with networking in Windows XP, but not with the BT Home Hub. I think the BT Home Hub uses its own software and prefer not to use the XP Networking Wizard. It also configures the IP addresses, from 192.168.1.64 to 65. PLEASE ANSWER ONLY IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THE BT HOME HUB.
The BT is fine, but the problem is most likely having is that the computers are not seeing each other network sites, due to several reasons: 1. The computers are not in the same workgroup 2. The computers are not designed to share resources. To check the first, click on My Computer, go to Properties, and look at the computer name "tab." Do this on all computers and ensure that all have the same group name. If not, change what they do. In the latter case, the easiest way for this is to open Windows Explorer (or My Computer) and right click on one of the units and allow sharing files. After making sure these two things are done, you should be able to see the other team. In addition, although not by default, another problem may be that "Client for Microsoft Networks "is enabled, which must be on all comptuers to see each other in Network Places." This is a client that are listed in network properties along with TCP / IP. As far as I know, the BT must allow this network traffic defuault. Anyway, hope that helps. Good luck, Mikel
