How do I get my Belkin Wireless G Adapter to work?

operating system: windows xp prof.
router: linksys (wireless)
I’m having trouble with connecting to the internet. My router’s name shows up, I put in the encryption password and still nothing happens. No error message, nothing. I just doesn’t connect.
Tech support told me to switch to between 1-11 channel on my router, it is currently on 6 – still nothing. I’m at a loss here. I just bought this damn thing too!
Please help. :]
Check whether Media Access Control (MAC) address filtering is in effect on the Linksys.
If it is, then add the MAC address of the belkin adapter to the “allow” list of MAC addresses.
