belkin wireless router n1 review
Is the Belkin N1 Vision a good router, and if so, what is the difference between the DSL and ADSL2+ models?
I have my current wireless router, an ADSL Netgear DG834GT, two floors up in my house because my desktop computer needs an ethernet connection. I recently got a Wii for Christmas, plugged it in to my TV on the ground floor, and found that it only picks my connection up sometimes, very weakly, if at all. I was hoping to get a good enough connection to play games over Nintendo WFC, watch Youtube videos, and BBC iPlayer videos. Unfortunately they don’t work because my connection is so weak. If I buy a Belkin N1 Vision wireless router, will I get a good enough signal to stream iPlayer and things like that? Also, I have read many good reviews of the Vision but also some bad ones about connection dropping and wifi chips failing. Are these true? And is there a difference between the £90 Cable/DSL model and the £118 ADSL2+ model? If its not very good, can anyone think of any other good range routers that would do the job? Thanks, S

You could change your router to a Belkin but there are no guarantees that the improvement will be sufficient for your needs

why not try powerline adapters

- these use mains wiring instead of a long ethernet cable. You plug a powerline adapter into one of the ethernet ports on the router and into a local mains socket and another adapter into your computer ethernet port and a nearby mains socket
Speeds are better than wifi and signals can be encrypted so your neighbour cannot hack in if they have powerline adapters.

If you change one of the powerline ethernet adapters to a powerline wifi adapter you can extend your network well beyond the range of the original router

BTW cable routers only work with cable connections in the UK there is only one provider – Virgin Media. Otherwise you are forced with ADSL modem/routers
