belkin wireless router notebook adapter

Is there a way to increase energy consumption N1 wireless adapter in a laptop?

I am having a problem with the range I'm getting my N1 adapter. I have a Belkin N1 Vision router. G my internal adapter connects faster than the N1. I was told that it is possible that the configuration of power consumption can be configured for energy-saving mode so a low range of the signal. I thought it was faster and had more range N1. Why am I a better signal in my G N1? It is also possible that my system needs an update op? My op system is xp sp2 vers 2002. It is 5 years old. Is it compatible with a N1 card? Any help would be appreciated.

Probably because the antenna built into the laptop is better positioned than the antenna attached to a PC-Card or Express Card (notebook built-in antennas are almost always better). I doubt the power saving mode has something to do with it (and there is a limit on the amount of energy is allowed to transmit any case, you could use higher gain antennas, but also have a higher directivity).
