wireless router vs cable and a sony vaio?

I’m not a computer geek so bear with me pls. Now my ethernet cable trailing along my floor to my laptop is 100mbps but my belkin wireless router(which throws 200ft apparently) gives 54mbps is my cable twice as good. I use the cable and sell internet to my friends in our house. Although the signal is so poor when i try and connect with my £1300 sony vaio(1 out 4 bars) that utube won’t come on at all and yahoo answers turns pages slow, but my mate seems happy and his laptop has got 192mb ram and is cheap, has any one else had problems with sony wireless ? oh the sony picks up wireless great when i’m next to it.

Cable is always faster and more secure than wireless. The disadvantage is that you are attached to the cable. Wireless connections are very dependent on the placement of the router and the PC, and the construction of the building. I am not aware that Vaio’s in general have a problem with wireless. Have you talked to Sony?
