What kind of wireless router would be best to use for pc and games consoles?
Not sure whether a “G” router or an “N” router would be appropriate. Would I need any additional hardware/cables/adapters to complete the network?
A wireless N router will work with wireless G devices anyway.
wireless N is like the new faster wireless whereas wireless G is slightly older. I think it would totally depend on the range that you want. If you are planning on being relatively close to the router (small 2-up 2-down house) than i would not advise paying the extra it costs for a wireless N router unless you were planning on having it for a couple of years.
In my opinion, unless you were planning on transferring large files between machines you won’t notice much of a difference between the two but Wireless N is the newer standard.
With regards to the second part of your question you need wirelss on both ends. The Nintendo Wii and PS3 have built in wireless so you wont need anything extra there, if you have an Xbox I would avise using a cable as the Xbox 360 wireless adapter costs around the £50 – $100 mark.
I would also advise you to use a cable for your PC unless you really can’t. You can get wireless “dongles” quite cheap from most goos IT websites and stores.
I Hope I have helped
