Is it possible to install multiple cable modems on a single cable line?
Hello, my friend has a cable connection for high speed internet and cable running into his home, and they use a modem that is specifically set up for internet phone. The line that comes from the box runs into a splitter, then seperates upstairs into a phone/internet modem, and the other downstairs into a room we want to convert into a computer office.
Rather than reroute this “phone” line specific for this modem, I’m hopeful that a solution is another cable modem for internet cable downstairs, along with the phone/internet modem upstairs. Wireless router isn’t an option we would like to use.
Our question is it possible to simply purchase another cable modem and put this downstairs, along with keeping the one upstairs? Will one modem interfer with the other on the line, or will they transmit data seperately and independantly?
I know it seems odd to have multiple cable modems, it really would be our best solution if it’s possible. Is this possible?
Thanks
a physical cable connection will allow several cable modems to be connected. in many areas, you can have phone, tv, and internet, all on the same incoming cable. each of these (particularly in the case of digital cable tv) devices is essentially a cable modem. I’d say it’s probably no big deal to have 4 modems connected to the same physical line, as long as you have enough signal strength after the necessary splitting to do it.
