What is the most convenient way to add storage to a laptop with a hard drive full?
My laptop has a hard disk and is packed full of media files – TV, movies, and music from iTunes. Does anyone else out there has had this type problem and found a good solution? I want to add storage capacity (at least 100 GB) and want to store and transfer these files with the same ease as done from a flash drive. Do most external USB 2.0 hard disks are displayed only as an additional unit of the manner in which a flash drive or the drive does not go? Or you have to use the included "Back up" records management software? Product descriptions and online reviews have left me confused. I can use a cellphone / Ethernet router at home, but is a unit of network-attached storage best / only option? I set up a network to share a printer and files, but is on the limit of my capabilities for options that involve a lot of technical knowledge are not what I'm looking for. laptop uses Windows XP Home Edition, if what matters.
Your question just mentioned your laptop .. so if that is the only device you wish to access the files, an external USB disk Hard is his best / easiest / cheapest option. The disk will appear as another drive letter .. So it is not necessary to use the backup software included. Personally I do not usually appears as drive D: \, which pushes your CD / DVD E: \ So do not be confused with that. If you need additional equipment access the files, just remove the HD and manually connect to another computer. If we are to share with more than 1 PC, you just is not in the | Properties Security Tab and blocking of permits or other equipment may not be able to access the files. Network attached storage is your 2nd more expensive / complicated alternative but to enter the setting it unless you REALLY want multiple computers to be able to read and write all the drive at the same time. My recommendation … go to newegg.com and buy the larger 5.25-inch (desktop) HD you can afford.
