Wireless connection issues with D-Link router and Atheros adapter?

Hi
I have a Acer Travelmate 7530 with an Atheros adapter and a D-Link Router connected to a SMC EZswitch connected to a Thompson speedtouch adsl2+ modem. The laptop runs windows 7 and sometimes when 2 accounts are logged on and when you switch user, it disconnects the internet and won’t let anyone use the internet until we shut down the computer and restart it and also sometimes the network has “Limited Access” at random points, and I can fix it by shutting the computer down as well as the router and rebooting them both. I have all of the latest drivers. What is wrong and how do i fix it?

What is wrong is very simple — you connected the switch to the Internet rather than your LAN. So your two computers are trying to use your one and only Internet connection.

Bad:
modem <-> switch <-> router
Why? Because the link between the modem and the router is the Internet, not your LAN. So anything else connected to the switch won’t be connected to your LAN and will instead be fighting the router for control of the one and only Internet connection.

Good:
modem <-> router’s Internet port <-> router’s LAN port <-> switch

Here, your router manages your one and only one Internet link and manages your LAN — which is supposed to be its job.
