Securing my dlink??
I just got my d-link dir-300 wireless g router.. and right now, it is what I am using.
but it is still NOT secured. I’ve done things which I saw on some sites, but they are not helpful as the model is not the same as mine (dir-300)
and the thing is, whenever I put on a password/security (using instructions which I am not even sure of), this laptop I am using right now COULD NOT connect to the internet, as opposed to no password, it connects automatically?
what is wrong?
also, yes, I’ve tried configuring to the ip address noted, and also at my computer’s wireless configuration.
help please, thanks in advance
You mentioned you have a DIR-300? When I went to D-Link’s website, I could only find a DIR-330. Did you mean 330?

1) Have you contacted D-Link Support? They have FREE Tech Support to help you setup and use their product.
1-877-354-6555
Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Pacific Time
Since they only support THEIR own products (and getting it to work within Windows).. they are generally pretty good. Their support reps may have an unfamiliar accent, but be patient and they will get you set up.
2) Have you gone Wireless Settings >> Wireless Security Mode (section) >> Chosen WEP or WPA-Personal
Scrolled down and chosen a WEP or WPA encryption key/password? This is different from the admin password you put on your Wireless Router.
Don’t forget to scroll up to the top and click “Save Settings”
NOTE: WPA is better then WEP, but some older Laptop’s can’t authenticate using WPA without a patch from Microsoft..so if you set up WPA, trying switching it to WEP instead and see if that works.
Now disconnect from your wireless connection and reboot your computer. Reconnect and you should be prompted for an encryption key/password.
IF not, then either you didn’t “save settings” when you last made the changes or something is messed up with the Wireless card on your laptop.
