I have a 108g Wireless Router, but my two laptops only recognize it at 54 mbps?
My two laptops are both under a year old – both have built-in 802.11b/g cards which I think are 108g capable. How can I get them to run at 108 instead of 54? (need to transfer lots of files FAST).
HARDWARE:
Laptop adapters: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Router: D-Link DI-624 Wireless 108G
(all have latest drivers/firmware installed)
While your router is capable of transmitting and receiving data at a speed of 108mbps, the Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG is only capable of a maximum connection speed of 54mbps in the G signal band. If you want to gain the benefit of the 108mbps from the router, you need to acquire the PCMCIA card adaptor from Dlink that is rated for the 108mbps like this one here: http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=472 .
The 108mbps G is a special variation of the Draft N technology which requires a router and adaptor card designed for this use. Since your router is Dlink, I recommend you get the PCMCIA card shown above at the link from them as well.
