Question about connecting and configuring routers to modems?

What i meant is, connecting a wireless router(that has no built in modem in it) to a modem, however in this case, my modem has itself is a wireless router+modem

I thought of this because i am gonna get a router with QoS, but found out it doesn’t have a built-in modem, so i thought maybe i could connect it to my current existing wireless router(has a built in modem)

I’ll be using D-link DIR-655 as the wireless router, while the modem is 2wire 2700hg

I should connect my ethernet from PC to the “internet” port of the d-link router, extend a ethernet cable from the d-link router’s lan port to a lan port on my 2wire modem, then finally the phone line to a phone jack and i should get internet right?

And…since both of these are routers, they have gateway sites, for example the D-link’s 1 would be 192.168.0.1 while the 2wire’s would be 192.168.1.254
With this setup i should have 2 gateways to access right?
What if i need to forward ports, etc..which one do i go?

Thanks!! =)

Using 2 routers on the same connectionis not a good idea, in many cases it causes continuopus trouble on the line, and can totally stop your connection. Either use a modem plus a router, or if on dsl use a dsl modem/router. This last is always going to be the fastest most reliable method as you have one piece of equipment handling everything.
