PC Ethernet Card Issue?

I recently bought a D-Link G604T modem/router to replace my old one. Whilst installing it, the software and wizard guide that came with it indicated that it could not detect the physical connectivity of the device when I had plugged in everything.

It advised to either:
1. Check my power connection.
2. Check whether my Ethernet cable is connected properly.
3. Ensure that the network card in my PC is working.

I then contacted D-link to ask about this problem, and they told me that it could possibly be a problem with my Ethernet Card in my PC. So I was asked to try the product on my lappy, and it worked.

D-Link then suggested me to “download the latest driver for that Ethernet card and update it on your PC.”. So how do I do it, and is there any way to detect whether my Ethernet card/cable is working in Device Manager?

NOTE: I am using this device as a modem/router to create a wireless access point for my laptop and other computer.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Device Manager and go to the Network Adapters and click the + Sign. You should see your DLINK Network Adapter over here if there is a Black “!” Mark in a Yellow Circle this indicates the device is not working or drivers not installed correctly.

You can open the cabinet and check the network card chip numbers and find the chipset number and goolge it to find the drivers.

Once you have the network card installed correctly, go to Start > Settings > Network Settings > LAN right click and select properties and check the box show icon in task bar when connected.

This will show a small icon next to the Time in your system task bar. If you card is physically not working or some issues with the connector it should show a Red Croos Mark.

Once you get a clean icon right click it and select status to find the IP Address assigned to the LAN Card.

Now open the browser and type the IP Address XX.XX.XX.1 where XX.XX.XX is the IP Address from ur LAN Card Status.

Some time you may need to add http://xx.xx.xx.1/advancedsettings.htm or similar check your router manual for accessing the advanced configuration page.

If you need any further clarification please get back to me.
