I bought an old laptop and a new router but the signal is weak?
I bought a refurbished IBM Thinkpad R31 … I have a PCMCIA adapter wiress Lan driver disk for installation that the company sent to the laptop. I bought a cheapish wirless router and configure d link however, only when I'm on my corridor and in the corner of my house I lose the connection … its not far. Anyway to adjust how far I can go … would be to install an updated driver for the PCMCIA adapter wireless network help at all? … I'm not sure if it adptor driver installed fine … I put in the disc and nothing came up to install but I keep getting internet connection is simply not very far in the distance … I live in a house with wood and drywall and brick with nothing. Any help would be a big thanks.
It seems that may have gotten an 802.11b router. The signal strength and bandwidth on this router is the problem. You can check easily enough, take the model number and connect to a search engine and see what the specs are. If ab router, upgrading to a router 802.11g is unlikely to fix the problem. You should be able to get ag router for about $ 50.
