Wireless internet / router help?
First, the important information: ISP: AT & T Modem: Speedstream 5150 Router: D-Link DI-524 SO: Windows XP Home Edition Ok, here's my problem. I can get the internet to work if tower or wire to my laptop directly (not using the router), but when I connect the router, I lose the network connection. Basically, when I run the DSL modem to the router, the signal is blocked. The router does not transmit a signal Internet wireless and hardline router to PC (tower or laptop) is not an Internet signal. Can anyone help here? Wow, quick answers. Well, let me tell you what I know / have tried. I know it is connected correctly (first thing I checked). The wireless card is active (I can jump to the neighbor's signal, and I know how to select the networks). The light comes on to the internet, so this has me so confused. I'll check the IP addresses of conflict but I'm pretty sure I've done that.
If I am not mistaken, which is also a Speedstream router, not just a modem. This means you will have reconfigure the SpeedStream be a "bridge Ethernet" and use the router to make the connection PPOE. These are the general steps: 1) Without the router installed, connect the modem configuration page (usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.256). If you are unsure, go to a command prompt and type "ipconfig" and press enter. The value of "Default Gateway" is the ipaddress is needed to the browser. 2) change the type of modem gateway to Bridge 3) Install D-Link router and configure it to use PPOE and enter your username and password. 4) You should be able to start browsing. Be sure to check the exact directions for your modem to run these procedures. I'm not familiar with all modems in the market, the principles are generally the same. Good luck!
