Wireless router problems?
I have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router. It’s worked very well for me for about 7 years. Recently, the laptops connected to the wireless router were unable to connect to the internet while my desktop’s internet works fine. If I unplug and plug the power cord, then the router usually starts working again for a couple of days. Lately, I’ve been having to unplug the cord more often, sometimes up to 5 times a day. I emailed D-Link but they only told me to make sure the antennae is straight (which it already was). Would getting a new router help fix this problem? What are some good, affordable routers?
It is odd that the problem is developing now. I would see if there is newer firmware for the unit and download it if available. Carefully follow all firmware upgrade instructions if you do this.
There are several low end home grade routers made by D Link, Linksys, Netgear, Belkin and others. I prefer better units that are more costly because they are more reliable and dependable so I avoid the low end units. Then again, I am a network engineer and I want rugged and reliable devices. Many home users find any of those I listed above as acceptable performers for low end home devices.
