Is there a way to test my wireless connection? From laptop to router.?
My old router called it quits, D-link DI-524. I just replaced it with a D-link WBR-2310.. It works perfectly, but I am postive it’s slower than the DI-524.. nothing else in my set-up was changed, I just replaced the router.
Printed on the boxes..
DI-524 is 54 Mbps
WBR-2310 is 108 Mbps
I wasn’t expecting any speed increase as I am only using an Atheros AR5005G card.. but for it to be slower is not acceptable.. what am I missing?
I don’t want to buy another router or wireless adpater.. just want to optimize the speed, because it’s slower now with the new router.
I don’t have this router but here’s a few suggestions:
Your present WiFi card maybe defaulting to a slower speed due to one of the enhanced speed settings your router has but your card may not support.
Play around with these settings in your router to see if it makes any difference or not…
Under Wireless Settings…
Super G Mode
Extended Range Mode
802.11g Only Mode
You may also want to check on your WEP/WPA settings as well to see if you’re now using a stronger encryption than before.
Here’s a neat little utility from a great programmer. It can help you get a look at your actual speeds to see what you’re running at.
