D-Link router is blocking PS3 Online Gaming, Playstation Store, but allows downloads?
I have a D-Link DI-624 Router. With wired or wireless PS3 I have the same problem. I can go and make the PlayStation Store downloads, but when I play online I get an error that the Ethernet cable is disconnected. I can not play anything online. If I can bypass the router and the cable directly to the modem, everything works fine. The problem is that my wife likes to connect to the Internet while I play. Is there any setting I need to do in my router? Are there other routers easier and automatic configuration to allow the PS3 to access games Online?
You will probably have to use port forwarding. The port to use can be found to go online and find the help of a game particular – I have a PS3 and this may work for all games. You'll have to manually configure the PS3 with a fixed IP address, probably something like 192.168.0.8 (a high number is probably the safest since it should avoid duplication of IP on your network that his wife will take the first available address automatically …). To get help for the router: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DI-624/DI-624index.htm (this contains instructions for PC games, but the steps are the same). If this sounds too daunting then put the PS3 in DMZ on the router and can be ignored port forwarding – still have to give the PS3 a static IP to do so.
