Need a fast, reliable home broadband router?
I need some advice about a router that can handle heavy torrenting, VoIP and online games (both too: P) – wired or wireless. Currently I have the 7004VBR SMC and D-Link WBR-1310 for radio and simply does not cut it. Tried the WRT54G (V. 6 – I know about the limited ram, but can not find anywhere v2) and some others who do a lot worse, but can not afford anything over $ 100. I have a Wired broadband 10 Mbps down / 1 Mbps (Rogers Extreme). Even if I have only one download file and limit connections to the entire network from 1930 to 1940 reduced to a crawl. Lately is slow, even if not downloaded, but reports speedtest.net speed. It would be a bonus if the router is available at retailers Canadians. Thank you very much for the suggestions.
I can recommend RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router WNDR 3300. Works for me, it's worth the money. You can buy cheap on Ebay. Here is a link to technical specifications: It is a router http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/RangeMaxNEXTWirelessRoutersandGateways/WNDR3300.aspx Dual Band is a good thing to have if you want to stay compatible. (For example, if friends come and have 2.4 GHz wireless cards working in 802.11b / g, then this would work for them too.) Here's a good website on what to look for when buying a wireless router: http://www.maxi-pedia.com/how+to+choose+the+right+wireless router + And this refers website on Wi-Fi standards: http://www.maxi-pedia.com/IEEE+Wireless+Wi-Fi+networking+802.11+standards
