linksys use wireless router as access point
How do I use a wireless router as an access point?

I have a Netgear WPN824 wireless router that I’m no longer using since I bought a Linksys 160N wireless router. One of my older Desktops is connected to this router with a 100 ft. Ethernet cable. Is there any way I can use the Netgear router as an wireless access point for this Desktop? If so, can someone guide me on how to do this? Thanks

Don’t know if your router will do it. Some can, but rarely. Most home routers are AP (access points), and laptops and desktops are “Clients”. Home routers generally cannot be made into a “Client” on the wireless side, unless there is a specific menu item for this. Some routers will have a WDS/WDS+AP mode, which may allow some form of bridging between networks.
The manual for this router does not show any setup for WDS or Bridging. Nothing wrong with the 100 foot cable, it is probably faster than wireless anyway.
