linksys wireless router as client
Setting up an XP network from scratch?

Basically, XP hates me.
I’ve tried all those step-by-step network set up tutorials, I’ve taken networking classes, but we never did XP Pro home network set up (we worked with Linux and W2K mainly)

I want to set it up as a Peer to Peer, and not Server/Client.
We have 3 computers, 1 is a laptop.
So if anybody has a detailed way to set everything up, please help.

So far, I’ve got the computers to both be able to connect to the internet via my wireless router. It’s a Linksys.
The only thing I can’t get is the computer to talk to each other.

1st make sure that the computers are all on the same workgroup. Right click my computer, left click device manager, click computer name, click change and make sure they all say the same thing, it dont matter what.
then you need to share your resources. right click the printers, and folders you want to share to other users and left click on sharing, then click enable sharing. That should be all you have to do to network them. I am assuming that the router is assigning ip addresses to the comps. If not, make sure the ip address are all similiar, i.e. 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.7, 192.168.1.98 , but not exactly the same. Your router is probably using 192.168.1. so definitly don’t use that. If you do have to change the ip address right click network places left click properties look in the protocol list and you will see internet protocol (TCP/IP) you can change the address in there. Good Luck
