Should I upgrade my wireless router?
Currently I am using a BEFW11S4 V4 made by Linksys off of my broadband connection. Should I upgrade to something faster? Is it worth it? What would you suggest? I’m looking to keep the whole set-up under 100.00 and I think I am going to need the usb adaptor for my laptop since it is about 3years old and doesn’t have the most current hardward. Any suggestions are appreciated.
It wouldn’t be worth it, especially since your laptop is 3 years old. Yes, you can buy the adapter, but odds are, your laptop is starting to slow down. So even if you have a faster router and adapter, you won’t notice that big of a jump in your internet speed.
Here is something that I tell all my customers (even tho I’m in sales)… Wait, technology changes all the time, and unless you NEED it, just wait.
When your laptop dies (hopefully years from now) or you just want a newer and faster computer… then upgrade your router at that time.
At this point, your laptop would come with the faster wireless card built in, and all you need to purchase is the faster router.
Today, the faster wireless router is wireless-N, that you can get from Best Buy for $80. But i’m sure if you search around, you can find it cheaper.
