I’m having problems with my wireless router. Help!?
I have setup a new Linksys router at my house for my laptop that has Windows 7. I have run a cable from my modem to the router and judging from the lights on the router, it seems that it is getting a feed from the modem as it should. However, whenever I try to connect to the wireless network I get a yellow triangle over my status indicator telling me there is “no network connection.” There are other things besides my laptop around that use this wireless connection so I’m wondering if perhaps there is some conflict there. I have tried using different cables but I always end up with the same results: it will either work for a while and then drop out or it won’t work at all. I’m afraid I don’t know much about setting up internet connections so if anyone out there could suggest some ideas to fix this I would greatly appreciate it.
Did you setup the router. cable wire in modem, ethernet cable from modem to router. then plug a different ethernet cable from spot 1 on router to your laptop. turn on router. restart computer. when computer starts click: START then RUN: CMD. cmd prompt should appear. type IPCONFIG. it should display the ip linksys should be by default 192.168.1.1. ok open up your internet browser and type that ip address is and click enter by default no login id and password is ADMIN. that should get you in the router just setup your wireless security settings and change the name to something recognizable.
