My Linksys wireless router constantly connects then disconnects. Any ideas?
My stepfather recently replaced our Linksys router of age with a new router. Our old router worked well. It is sometimes disconnected and have to restart, but this only happened a couple of times a week. With the linksys router, the Internet in all three of our laptops is disconnected and then reconnected possibly ten times a day. Often going to happen twice in one hour. Our desktop computer that is connected to the modem is up and all our laptops are down. I know that the distance can cause problems and I know that cordless phones and other devices can break the connection. However, our old router works fine. Does anyone know why or what can be done about our new router? A friend suggested buying a repeater for our laptops are not fighting for the width band, but that had nothing to do with our reality Internet constantly disconnecting?
There are many reasons that this could be happening. It is clear that distance and interference can be a factor. Another reason could be that you are using the default SSID of "linksys." If a close neighbor also are using SSID, the connection is unstable. Another possibility is that the firmware must be updated. I had a linksys with the same issue. After updating the firmware, I had no problems.
