linksys wireless router extended range
Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G Repeater – External how does it work?

does it need to be plugged into my router with a Ethernet cable or do i just plug it into a power outlet somewhere in my house to extend the range

MOST people do NOT need a repeater in their homes unless they have a a computer in the basement. Wifi is strong enough to cover MOST peoples homes. That is why you can even see your neighbors routers. I can see about 10 of my neighbors and I can see my router halfway down my street.

If you can still return the repeater, I would recommend just buying an “N” series router or getting a WRT54GL and putting either ddwrt or “tomato” firmware on it.

The purpose of a repeater is to increase the range so If range consideration only was a factor, I would position the router at 1/3 the length of the home and the repeater at 2/3 the range.
