If it is not broke, I will not fix, but how long DSL modems and wireless routers last?
I have a Westell Wire Speed 2100 series from mid-2003 and a Linksys wireless broadband router with speed boost from the summer of 2005. No problems with any of them. The manual and the Linksys website even says that the firmware update unless you have a problem, Verizon's Web site says it does not do anything unless a representative of Tech tells you to. Am I incredibly lucky so far, or that these products have a fairly long life? How long have your been uncovered modems and routers away?
I agree with: "If it is not broke do not fix it, but you can try to get a newer model anyway. Often Internet providers improve their services due to new technologies and sometimes the older computers can not keep up. I've seen it happen many times with modems cable and I do not see why a different DSL modem. As for your router, if successful, do not mess with him. It is probably ab / g router which is fine, unless you are doing a lot of streaming media or file transfer over the network.
