linksys wireless router g 2.4 ghz
I have a broken Linksys G 2.4 Ghz wireless broadbank router. Can I just put it in the trash?

Is it safe to put in the trash?

(I have a new D-Link Wireless N Router and it is working great!!! So fast and wireless works too!)

I would not be so hasty to put it into the garbage. Its permanent memory (flash chip) may contain some information you don’t want others to have. When you got your new D-Link router, you may or may not have set up new security (WPA passcode) and the administrative password for the router. In addition, it may have a MAC address that’s registered with your ISP.

If you can still access the old router’s setup page, you should find a setting to reset it to its factory defaults. This should wipe out any custom settings you have made. If it doesn’t work wirelessly any more, you can probably get into it by connecting it via an Ethernet cable to an Ethernet port on the new router. Use one of the regular LAN ports, not the WAN port, when you do this.

If you don’t want to bother with all of this high-tech stuff, I presume you have someone handy in your house. I’d sink about 6 holes at random completely through the device with a 1/4″ bit and a power drill. It’s just plastic, so you can make short work of it. That should keep anyone from recovering information from its memory.
