linksys wireless router g setup not detecting

by admin on March 25, 2010

Can you help me get my wireless router working?

OK here’s whats happend so far.

I opened my new Linksys Wireless G Router and put in the CD that came with it so it could step-by-step guide me in how to hook it up. I am 100% sure that I put the cables where they needed to go, and yet during the setup process, it would not detect an internet connection. I did what it told me to do. I restarted my DSL modem 3 times, restarted the router, and the computer, but still no internet connection. I gave up on the setup process and hooked it back up before I put the router on. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get an internet connection on that thing? It asked me something about changing a connection (DCHP?? or something simliar like that, but I didn’t change it, and I pressed continue) Don’t know if it has anything to do with it.

PLEASE HELP!

I realize that you are sure the cables are connected properly. But make sure the router is showing that there is a network connection. The LinkSys router does everything itself, so there’s no need to adjust the DHCP settings. If the router detects a DHCP server from the modem, which it very well should, it will assign itself as a DHCP client, yet assigning its own IP addresses to connected computers. Also, make sure the cables are good. They might be faulty.

Also make sure you have your wireless card installed, and operational. Then try running the wireless network wizard on Windows. It should work.
