Is there a router I can buy that does NOT have to have a wired network adapter?
I just bought the Linksys WRT54G router, recommended to me by a friend who works in IT. It seems to be a great router with lots of services available, but I couldn’t figure out why once I disconnected the Ethernet cable from the router to the computer, I lost the connection. Finally I read the quick installation guide which said the minimum requirements included at least one wired network adapter. I want a router which will enable me to be connected wirelessly right from the get-go because there are only notebook computers in the household now.
Is there a router available where I can just set it up and have wireless internet without connecting it to any computer at all?
You’re misunderstadning…
ALL routers require that you go into the configuration panel to set them up. This means hooking up a cable to the router, opening a web browser, typing in the address http://192.168.1.1 which pops you into the adminstration screen of your router… once you configure everything in here (like your wireless) then you will not need to keep a cabled system plugged in.
This is the way all routers work. Once you properly configure the wireless settings you will be able to connect all your computers wirelessly.
Linksys are very good about walking customers through the set up and I believe they are still completely free. good luck.
