How do i set up a Linksys WRT54G?
I followed the CD instructions completely and all the lights like the Power, Wireless, Network 1, and Internet lights are lit. (Those are the ones that the cd says are supposed to be lit).
The final step in the CD instructions is for the router to be detected. IT ISNT DETECTED! I try reseting, changing ethernet cords, and unplugging power cord and pluggin in again lke the cd says to. PLEASE HELP! THANKS
Ummmm.. I don’t know what that previous answer is even related to but …..
The first thing you need to do for your Linksys router is get a short ethernet cable and hook directly from one of the router ports to your pc with an internal network card.
IF you do that, it should be detected without problems.
THen you can follow the manufacturers recommended set up procedure.
Be sure that your Network interface card is set to get an ip address automatically rather than having a static ip.
You can check by clicking start – settings, control panel, network and dial up connections then click properties on your network connection.
When you see the property box, click and highlight tcp/ip in the list and select properties again.
Then look at the various tabs to be sure you don’t have a static ip assigned.
Once you do this, you can close all these windows and click start , run, command and press enter.
At the command prompt, type ipconfig and see what you get.
If you see an ip address and a default gateway address, you are in business.
If not, type iconfig/release and hit enter, then ipconfig/renew and hit enter and then ipconfig again to see if you have an ip address now.
That should take care of the problem.
Good luck.
