linksys wireless router ip address configure

How do you configure wireless linksys routers to allow static ip addresses on host computers?

I tried setting static public addresses on the pc’s but could not get to the internet. DHCP only distributes local Ip addresses. Is there a way to do this? When wired (router is 4 port) they get to the internet just fine.

I tried setting static public addresses on the pc’s but could not get to the internet. DHCP only distributes local Ip addresses. Is there a way to do this? When wired (router is 4 port) they get to the internet just fine. Again. The IP’s I am trying to use are public Ip addresses not local (192.168.0.x or 172.16.x.x or 10.x.x.x) addresses.

Let’s assume that your router is logged into the internet. On the settings page, the router “get’s its IP address and DNS” from the ISP. COPY down those DSN addresses. Then try to use those with your static IP assignment. You see, it is assumed that the DNS addresses from from the DHCP server.

Let’s go a bit slower. Let’s say that the Gateway address of your router is 192.168.0.1, I would use an IP out of the DHCP server range for a static IP. So if you are allowing 100 to 255, then set the Static to 192.168.0.99. Set the Mask to 255.255.255.0 and gateway to 192.168.0.1 Then set those DNS server addresses.

Of course, I would use dynamic addresses and take advantage of the DHCP server. I would use the Wireless security feature too.
