linksys wireless router modem installation
Verizon DSL Modem Westell 7500 and Linksys Wireless Router?

I recently ordered Verizon DSL and got a combined router/modem Westell 7500. My DSL service has already been activated and installation has been complete. I am happy with the connection, but since Westell 7500 only has WEP function, which I hear is not very secure is used wirelessly, I am thinking about getting a Linksys wireless router which has WPA to maximize wireless security.

Can I connect the combined modem/router to the Linksys wireless router? Has anyone tried?

My computer is Windows XP SP2.

Thank you!

should not be a problem. the Verizon modem/router will address the linksys and the linksys will address everything else. Just ensure that the Verizon is set WIDE OPEN. meaning that it would be best to turn off its wireless abilities and just connect wired to the new router set everything else to default. Than just use the linksys and all of its security to run your network.

I run a similar setup with Qwest. I have a Motorola modem/router from Qwest with a Belkins “N1″ router behind it. I turned off the wireless on the Motorola opened up everything on it and then am using the Belkins to provide my networking in the house.
