linksys wireless router power supply
Is it OK to use a 12V 2A power supply for a 12V device that only draws .5A?

I lost the power supply for my Linksys wireless router and am wondering if I could use this power supply from an old external hard drive.

Absolutely! Using wrong voltage, polarity, or AC/DC can potentially harm your electronics, but too much amperage will not, as the device will only draw what it needs. This is like if your printer uses 8.5×11 (A4) paper, and somehow you lost the paper tray and replaced it with one that uses the same type of paper, but holds 4 times as much paper, and you needed to print a report, the printer will not be harmed by having the extra paper, it just won’t use it all.
