why cant i share my printer on my wireless network?
I have a wireless network with a cable modem connected to a linksys router. A desktop running windows xp has a wired connection to the router. A laptop running vista connects wirelessly. The wireless laptop has the printer (a dell all in one a940) connected to it with a usb cord. I want to be able to print to the printer from the desktop using my network. I went to the printers options on the laptop and said to allow sharing, but when I go to add the printer on the desktop, i select add a network printer, it searches for the printer, but all it lists is Microsoft wireless network (or something like that), when i click this, it says the printers name is wrong. How do i set it up so i can print from the desktop when the printer is connected to another computer.
Try connecting this way:
Go to My Network Places
Find your computer with the printer
Right click the printer (if it shows) and Connect
You may need the driver CD from the printer because Vista and XP may need different drivers.
If your computer doesnt show in My Network Places you will need to troubleshoot the network, and probably put some compatibility patches on the XP computer.
