I cannot connect to my linksys router because of security settings?
I took my laptop to my dad’s house and he changed the security settings to match his linksys router: changed the security type, encryption key, and network security key.
When I brought my laptop back to my mom’s house, it now wont connect to her wireless router because of the security settings. I found the router starter book for the router but I cant seem to find the security settings that it’s supposed to be on.
Can anyone help me? PLEASE?
I need to get connected to my mom’s router, but I don’t know the settings to connect.

Its a brand new laptop so theres no restore point that is before I changed the security settings.
I need to know the encryption type and network security key. I have no idea what they are and how to find out what they are?
The OS has nothing to do with this.
It’s about changing options.
Ok, Here is what you do.
Windows XP: Start -> Run- > cmd -> “ipconfig”
Where it says Default gateway (that’s what you are supposed to connect too)
Open up the web-browser http://defaultgateway/ <- Which is an ipaddress. EX: http://192.168.2.1 (depending on the settings it could be different)
Now, It should ask you for a username/password IF you don't know ask mom, if she doesn't know... try No username Password Admin Get a pencil and hit the reset button on the back.. This will wipe out all settings. Now Reconnect and if it asks you the password, Please try the default No username // Admin as password.
Next Step: At this point you should be connected to the router at this point, If you had to reset the router you will need to add in security..

Now find your way to the wireless settings, Set up your WEP key.
Hit the save button... Goto your laptop, connect to the router (might need to change the router name if you reset it) Connect to your router and type in the new wep key.
Extra problems. If you typed the wep key in right, but it connects and shows a ! (exclamation mark) Go back in to the control panel for your router and go to the wireless page... And change the Channel that it's on.
