Linksys WRT54GS-EU v5.1 with winxp sp 2 pro?

i have just purchased the subject wireless router. upon installing it with the provided software cd i was expecting a wireless connection tab / category in network connections window. but that is not there. what to do as i hav been unable to share files with my Dell Laptop. meanwhile i hav once been able to run internet on both the computers i.e., the desktop and laptop.
please tell me to remove any hidden / previously configured network connections from winxp sp2 pro.

As stated in the first response, you will not see a wireless icon on your desktop computer, unless you have a wireless card installed on it.

I myself have been frustrated with this router. My problem is similar to yours. I have the router successfully installed and running on my desktop computer, and my laptop will find and connect to my wireless network but won’t get internet. If anyone has a solution to this I would appreciate the help as well.

You need to make sure that you have allowed the connection in your firewall, if you are using one, and that the Windows XP built-in firewall is disabled for the laptop computer. Once I did that step I made some progress, but am still unable to get internet on my laptop. So try to make sure that your firewall allows the wireless connection and see if that makes it work for you.

If that doesn’t work another possible solution is to hook up the laptop to your router with a spare network cable. Go to the linksys website and download the setup tool on your desktop computer. It will setup the router with a few prompts from you during the process. Then it will tell you to connect your laptop with the network cable and go to a specific website for the laptop and download that tool. From there it should configure the laptop to work with the router with ease.

Good luck!
