linksys wireless router software upgrade
I have a Comcast cable modem and a Linksys Wireless Router. I need help setting this thing up?

As I said in my opening I have just upgraded to Comcast high speed internet. I am using Comcasts cable modem and a new Linksys Wireless-N Router. I have tried the Linksys set-up software that came with the router but that is no help. My computer works fine when the ethernet cable is directly into the cable modem, but the set up software has trouble configuring it. I would just like to do all the set-up myself, however I don’t know what to set the router settings to. Can anybody help?

there is no settings to ‘setup’.
you plug in your linksys router to the modem power cycle both devices, turn off the computer. the IP of the router should be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.0.1, once all devices are plugged in, and your computer is back on, you want to make sure that the router is set to obtain and IP address by DHCP server, not statically, or not PPPoe. it will obtain the external IP from the server of your ISP, then in return will give you internal IPs of 192.168.1.xxx. do not use the software with the linksys router. its PnP. ..software does nothing but confuse users in trying to hook up their devices. once all is connected go to your LAN in the network connections, right click on the LAN, go to properties, double click on TCP/IP, make sure both dots are in obtain an IP address automatically, obtain a DNS server address automatically. once done, go to start > run > type in: cmd > type in: ipconfig /all
you will see your information for all IP, dns, wins, and also subnet mask and default gateway. if you want to make sure you are able to talk to other websites type in: ping www.google.com
it will come back with reply from” 4 xtimes.
