Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router slows down internet A LOT?
I’ve had the router for awhile, but we just switched ISP’s. We now have CenturyTel DSL. When I plug in the connection to the router, it takes forever to load pages. My internet speed is 1.5 Mbps. They router’s speed is 54 Mbps. Could that be the problem that the router has a slower speed than the internet? It’s really annoying that it takes 5 minutes to load a facebook profile with the router and only a second without it. I want to use the router though!
I think I may have fixed it, I did a firmware update to the router and now it seems to be speedy.
1.5Mb is slower than 54Mb…at least in my math book.
Your problem is most likely the MTU setting.
Try setting it to 1500, then 1492. This is in your router, main setup page. Also…if it is set to some number manually, you may want to tray “automatic” MTU.
I also had to set some of my computers to 1492 to work properly over my DSL.
You can do this easily with “DrTCP”.
Simple, just read the instructions if you find you need it.
