Help with Linksys Wireless Router setup?
This is not a generic question. I have my router set up securely and all, but I am adding a firewall between the router and my modem using linux firestarter. My router will not allow this, and does anyone know how to set up the router’s page to do this? the firewall is set up correctly, so it’s not that.
There are some router models that have the option to disable or uncheck the firewall (usually its found by going to the router’s page – under “Security”. You know, the “going to the age on your browser”). If you have an older model or the one you have doesn’t have this option, you may need to open ports (usually port triggering – to allow all computers behind the router access), in which case you may need to find out what port applications are used by your firewall.
There is one (or two models?), though, that do have some difficulty with working behind a firewall. You didn’t mention what model you had – I can’t remember if that was the WRV54G (the BEFSX11 doesn’t count since you said yours was a wireless router).
The folks at tech support can help you, but it’ll go faster if you have the ports needed. Getting the port application may be a bit tricky though… Oh, if you feel the technician you get isn’t up to the challenge – ask for second level.
