How does a person update firmware on a Linksys WRT160N wireless router V3?

Someone I know has a wireless router which is a Cisco / Linksys WRT160N V3 and it worked fine on its Vista operating system, but since has been upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium with the upgrade that has received HP everytime you start your computer has to disconnect the router to go to work on your laptop. The company said that when he calls you need to update the firmware but when you download the firmware from the website and click twice on it as the site specifies to install Adobe Reader which appears with an error saying that no can open the bin file is an extension .. I'm not sure what to do? and I was assuming that, like other drivers / firmware on which work on multiple platforms I thought it should work or that the HP upgrade wizard to solve this problem but so far nothing yet. All ideas are greatly appreciated …

You need to log into the router and update the firmware from there – specifically, the Administration -> Firmware Update page. This page lets you the.bin select file and install it (see page 27 of the User's Guide for more information.) Installing the firmware will perform a restore router factory. I suggest you first make a backup of the configuration (Administration -> Management) and restoration of configuration after the upgrade (see p. 25of the User Guide). You can download the Linksys User Guide at: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/CA/en/support/WRT160N/download
