linksys wireless router wrt54g 2
How do I install my Linksys wireless router?

We just received a wireless router from a friend (used)
we dont have the manual or install cd.

So how would I go about this?

We have comcast high speed internet
the router we got is:
Wireless-G 2.4 GHz Broadband Router LInksys
model: WRT54G v2.2

any help is appreciated!

Thank you!

Plug the Ethernet cable from the Cable modem into the WAN port on the LInksys.
since this is a used router, you may want to reset it (hold the rest botton in untill all the lights start flashing light its booting up)
Once it’s reset use the wired portion to configure your wireless network (plug a ethernet cable from the PC to one of the 4 LAN ports on the linksys router
Once that done open your web browser type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. This will bring you to a router configuration page
From here you will need to set the routers WAN settings to Automaticly obtain an IP (which I believe is the deafult setting and may not need to be changed)
Once that is set the Linksys should be getting an IP address from Comcast.
Now your wireless is a little trickier
You want to set up some sort of Encrytion either WEP or WPA, and also change the name of the SSID (from linksys to your last name or name of your network, something unique)
Do this by clicking on wireless under the wireless button there will be Basic Wireless and Wireless Security
Basic wireless is where you configure your SSID
Wireless security is where you will first have to enable security, then choose your WEP or WPA, then just match the setting on the laptop
DO this by going into control Panel, (make sure your in classic view) and go into network connections
once here Right click on the wireless connection and go to properties. Click the on the middle tab Wireless settings
and add the connection with the settings you used prior. (you may want to print this off :P
Good luck, vote as best answer
