Linksys wrt54g v5 connectivity problem.?
Recently purchased a Linksys wrt54g v5 router and a netgear wg111 v2 wireless adapter for a new computer. Every time I turn the computer on, it takes an extremely long time to detect and acquire the network address, upwords of about 30 seconds. Windows times out and gives the “limited or no connectivity” message and then works fine. I’m using the software that came with the Netgear router and have disabled the feature in xp that allows windows to configure the connections. Having a similar problem with a computer that’s also running a “b” connection on the same router as well.
Try changing channels on the router or access point. Make sure there are no wireless interference (e.g. cordless phones, unshielded speakers, etc…) that could be causing the problem. Try relocating your router/ap in an open area as high as possible.
Maybe its a distance issue… try placing the computers closer. If it is distance, you can try using an range expander.
Also, check if you have any firewalls enabled. Routers have a built-in (NAT) firewall that often conflict with other firewalls and security software on your computer – try disabling it. Also third party firewalls or security softwares tend to slow things down.
If you have wireless encryption enabled – try disabling that. If its set to 128bit, try lowering it to 64bit.
Have you tried upgrading the firmware if you’ve tried all of this?
