Someone please help me with my internet Router?
I have Comcast and i have a pretty old modem. But when i played games like Battlefield 2 i got a ping around 35. I just bought a wireless Linksys router but my computer is connected by a ethernet cable. My wireless router is connected to another wireless computer and wired Xbox 360. Now when i use my router in games like battlefield 2 i get ping like 195. Which is way too much and when cruising the internet it is so SLOW. I have a really nice computer. Do i need to buy a new modem, router or download something. My router is Linksys WRT54GS Wireless G with speed booster? Please someone help i just bought a new computer and i wanna play battlefield =\?
Does this happen with the Xbox disconnected from the router and the wireless computer off? In other words, with just your gaming computer the only connection? If so, turn the others on, one at a time to find the culprit. Also, have you secured the wireless stuff? Maybe you have a neighbor who is using your wireless connection without your knowledge, downloading gigabytes of music or something.
I have a WRT54GL and the Linksys site did indeed have an upgrade for it. You should look. (BTW, the “S” and “L” are not the same.)
Better check that the ping is still 35 with it set up the way it used to be. That could have changed.
Also look at the DNS addresses the router is using. Make sure their the same ones you were using before you got the Linksys. (This wouldn’t affect ping times, though.)
