How to know IP address and/or node name of my printer?

Printer: Brother MFC-3360C
Wireless router: Linksys WRT54GS

I installed the driver included in the Brother set-up CD in my Macbook so that I can print wirelessly. It detected the printer that is connected to my Win XP pro desktop, and was able to print through it. After restarting the Macbook, there is an error message that the LOGINserver quit unexpectedly. I found the solution for that by downloading from Brother a scanning driver and the error message disappeared after another restart.

The problem now is there is an MFL-Pro suite that came with the download and everytime I turn the Macbook on, something pops-up that I need to give the IP address or node name so that I can connect with the printer. It didn’t detect it in the list of printers available so I had to click “Custom” and this is where the IP address or node name is needed.

By the way, my printer is not connected directly to the router. It’s USB is plugged into my desktop so I leave it on when I print.

If the computer is shared, which it sounds like it is in your case, then the IP you should enter would be that of the XP machine since it’s acting as the printer server. Since it’s being shared through the XP machine, the printer itself does not have an IP address.
