linksys wireless routers for laptops

My old Linksys wireless router stopped working. What is the difference between the new Wireless N/G Bands?

I don’t use my routers for anything fancy, just to connect our 3 laptops to the internet. Why are these new ones so expensive? The one I bought like 5 years ago was like $50 bucks, these others are like $75-100++.
