linksys wrt54g wireless router firmware upgrade
If you dont upgrad you router’s firmware, will it cause the router to work?

I’m asking this question, because I have a linksys router wireless router. The model number is WRT54G version 6. My router, for some reason will not work. I can get on the internet just fine when using my modem. However, when I try to get on the internet with router hooked up, my internet doesnt work. I havent upgraded my firmware yet. If your router’s firmware is not updated, can that cause the router to not work?

Have you ever gotten it to work? Generally speaking you have to be connected to the internet to upgrade the hardware?

Are you following the installation instructions? Generally speaking you have to unplug the power from the modem and router and then plug the modem in followed within a 5-10 seconds. That should allow the modem to bind to the M.A.C. address of the router instead of the computer.

Also, some internet providers don’t allow you to use a router so they might have that blocked. Or you may have to call tech support to have them manually unbind your modem from the M.A.C. address of your computer. Some providers do this to keep you from switching the modem back and forth between computers.
